Ms Amalina Ridzuan is a Phase III student at NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and is one of the first two madrasah students to be accepted by the school in 2015.
She spent 10 years studying in a madrasah, and became motivated to join the healthcare sector as she wants to help people suffering from illnesses such as cancer, after reading a newspaper article about a cancer patient who had lost his eyesight and sense of taste when she was in Secondary 3.
After completing her PSLE and GCE ‘O’ levels, she took the GCE ‘A’ level examinations at Serangoon Junior College. As her examination results were not satisfactory, she enrolled in a three-year course at Temasek Polytechnic studying biomedical science, which helped her understand more about diseases.
Amalina is grateful to her parents as they helped and encouraged her to pursue her dreams. She enrolled into the medical school together with Mr Ahmad Abdurrahman, who was also a former madrasah student.
