Science pioneers honoured

Eighteen former and current NUS faculty members have been named in a list of Singapore scientific pioneers in a commemorative book about the country’s science and technology efforts. The 120-page book, published by the Asian Scientist with grants from the SG50 Celebration Fund and the Nanyang Technological University, lists a total of 25 scientists aged 50 and above who have made exceptional contributions to Singapore’s scientific, engineering, medical and education sectors over the last five decades.

Congratulations to our National Medical Excellence Award 2015 winners!

The National Medical Excellence Awards (NMEA) recognizes Singapore's most outstanding medical talent. This year, eight awards were given to outstanding recipients in six award categories at the NMEA 2015, held at Shangri-La Hotel, on 21 August 2015. NUS Medicine congratulates Associate Professor Tai E Shyong for clinching the National Outstanding Clinician Scientist award, Professor Lee Chuen Neng for winning the National Outstanding Clinician Mentor award and Associate Professor James Yip for bringing home the National Outstanding Clinical Quality Champion award.

Welcome to NUS Medicine, Class of 2020

It was a significant milestone for the 300 freshmen students of the Class of 2020 on 24 August 2015 as they were officially welcomed to the School and presented with their white coats! The annual White Coat Ceremony at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine marks the commencement of medical undergraduate studies. Students are presented the white coats as symbols of their commitment to a course of studies that aims to prepare them for a noble vocation – one of service to the health and well-being of their fellow men.

NUSSU Rag and Flag – Gold for NUS Medicine!

NUS Medicine students won the gold medal at this year's Rag and Flag, which was held in tandem with NUS' 110th anniversary celebrations! Rag Day which took place at The Float@Marina Bay on 7 August as part of the Golden Jubilee Weekend and National Day Parade celebrations saw 1800 student participants and 26,000-strong crowd. The theme "Where I belong" and tagline "To be with the people" symbolises solidarity with the community.

Singapore's first and foremost medical school, the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine celebrates its 110th year of founding this year. Since its establishment on 3 July 1905, the School has remained faithful to its mission of educating and producing doctors for the nation. The School currently comprises 18 departments and 2 centres and covers a full spectrum of medical specialties. As the School marks its 110th year, its departments are also celebrating various anniversaries of their own.
