We would like to invite you to attend this seminar hosted by Prof. Vinay Tergaonkar:
Date: 28 August 2019, Wednesday
Time: 11:30AM – 12:00PM
Venue: Level 3, IMCB Seminar Room 3-46, Proteos, Biopolis
Speaker: Prof. Adolfo García-Sastre, Professor of Microbiology and Medicine, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai
Title: Virus interferon antagonism and host tropism
The ability of flaviruses and influenza viruses to replicate and induce disease in a host is in part determined by the capacity of their viral interferon antagonists to inhibit interferon-mediated antiviral response in this host. This has important implications in animal model development for viral infections.
Prof. Adolfo García-Sastre is Professor in the Departments of Microbiology and Medicine, and Director of the Global Health and Emerging Pathogens Institute of Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, NY. He is also Principal Investigator for the Center for Research on Influenza Pathogenesis (CRIP), one of five NIAID Centers of Excellence for Influenza Research and Surveillance (CEIRS). For the past 25 years, his research interest has been focused on the molecular biology, virus-host interactions, innate immunity and pathogenesis of influenza viruses and several other RNA viruses, as well as on the development of new vaccines and antivirals. He has more than 500 peer-reviewed publications in these areas of research. In 2017, he was elected as a fellow of the Royal Academy of Pharmacy in Spain, and in 2019, he was elected to the National Academy of Sciences.
