Programme Description and Objective

The Research Fellow will be expected to work on Research Projects under the Department of Psychological Medicine as a co-investigator. Opportunities to lead projects will be available if the candidate shows the potential after working with the team. Projects span across the age continuum from adolescent to elderly, and are mainly psychosocial.

 

Job Scope

  • Independently prepare all study documents for approval by the relevant ethics boards.
  • Plan and coordinate research projects.
  • Provide study oversight including data management, staff training and patient recruitment. Previous experience in supervising staff or students in research work will be an advantage.
  • Analyse study data.
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication.

Job Specification / Requirements

  • PhD in either Epidemiology, Psychology, Medicine or Public Health.
  • CITI and GCP certification.
  • Post-doctoral research experience will be an advantage.
  • Past experience and involvement in clinical trials and/or cohort studies.
  • Good writing and communication skills and an ability to get along with team members.
  • Strong publication record (at least two first author original research publications and poster/oral presentations)
  • Excellent knowledge and application of advanced statistics and biostatistics; able to analyse data independently using software such as SPSS, SAS and STATA.

Renumeration

Renumeration will be dependent on experience and guided by NUHS policy. A probation of 6 months will apply; then a contract for 2 years will be offered and renewable depending on performance.

About the Position

The Department of Psychological Medicine, National University of Singapore, invites applications for Temporary Worker (Research Nurse) for a new study project: SG90 cohort of HealthSpan: an NUS-NUHS-A*STAR biology of Human Ageing Program. Appointment will be made on a 1 year contract basis (100 hours/ month) in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.  Estimated start date is 15 Jan 2019.

 

Job Scope

  • Plan, organise and co-ordinate field work under the Hannah Study.
  • Assists the Principal Investigator (PI) and Research Assistant to plan, organize and co-ordinate field works.
  • Home visits in the community to collect biospecimens: blood, urine, fecal matter, skin taping, saliva, hair, buccal cells and nail samples.
  • Chaperon subjects to NUH/NUS for Vascular imaging, DEXA and Neuropsychological assessment
  • Maintain confidentiality on subjects’ data.
  • Perform administrative duties and ad-hoc project as assigned by the PI and RA.

About the Position

Nested at the NUS Department of Psychological Medicine, the Mind-Science Centre (MSC) is a faculty-volunteer collaborative partnership that focuses on the delivery of community-based interventions through evidence-based research without the use of drugs. MSC will undertake mental research across the age continuum and translate the outcomes into effective and scalable interventions in communities across Singapore and Asia.

MSC is embarking on a Singapore Youth Epidemiology and Resilience (YEAR) Study in collaboration with MOE, IMH and Tote Board. The study aims to determine the prevalence of psychiatric disorders in a school-based population between the ages of 10 to 18, with future plans to examine the developmental patterns, underlying mechanisms, protective factors and ultimately interventions to build emotional resilience. Other than the YEAR Study, the Research Assistant will also gain exposure through involvement in a range of relevant Department studies.

 

Job Scope

  • Plan, organise and co-ordinate field work.
  • Assist and administer screening, recruitment and consent taking of participants.
  • Conduct and administer assessments directly with participants or brief and instruct relevant intermediaries.
  • Maintain, track and update of all related administration and research documents.
  • Manage research data, including online questionnaire, data entry, data cleaning and ethics/legal compliance.
  • Perform literature review and assist in writing for ethics/grant/donation proposal for future study phases.

About the Position

The Neurobehavioural Core is a new unit within the NUS Department of Psychological Medicine. Psychologists in this unit will be involved in all manner of research that involves neuropsychological assessment; from epidemiological studies to clinical trials. We will provide consultation to research teams that wish to incorporate neuropsychological elements into their study. We will also advise on the study design, outcome measures and methods of analysis. There will be a mix of hands-on and training of others to perform assessments. This unit aims be a core facility that will be accessible to all academic institutions in Singapore.

10. Research Fellow

The NUHS Memory, Aging, & Cognition Centre: Neurocognition Core invites applications for a Research Fellow.

 

Statement of Purpose

To lead academic research on cognition in study cohorts, conduct data analysis and write scientific manuscripts and grant applications. To provide supervision to junior staff in academic and non-academic duties. Additional duties include administration and neuropsychological assessments.

Candidates will gain extensive training and exposure to research skills (study conduct/planning, data analysis, and scientific writing) as well as supervision skills.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Validate cognitive rating instruments in the Singaporean population.
  • Provide cognitive rating services for clinical trials and collaborative projects.
  • Work with investigators to develop culturally sensitive cognitive interventions, and thereafter provide interventions as a service for clinical trials.
  • Provide neuropsychological and neurobehavioural assessments for mood, anxiety, stress, resilience, personality traits, behaviour/habits, and emotional and social intelligence.
  • Provide expertise to work with users on design of consent forms, case report forms and protocols.
  • Provide training for neurocognition core users (seminars, workshops and tutorials) and to train junior staff to provide rating services for clinical trials.
  • Provide supervision to research assistants/research associates.

 

Job Requirements

(A) EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • Research Fellow -- PhD in cognitive psychology, neuropsychology, epidemiology or other relevant subjects; or MD with relevant experience in Geriatrics, Neurology or Psychiatry.
  • Previous working experience in clinical/research settings administering neuropsychological assessments and clinical interviews;
  • An excellent track record of scientific publications and achievements.

 

(B) LANGUAGE

  • Fluency in English is mandatory;
  • Fluency in Chinese (including dialects), Malay or Tamil will be an added advantage.
