Free health screenings led by medical students

Two free health screenings were organised in October by NUS medical students. The Public Health Screening held at Toa Payoh HDB Atrium on October 6 and 7 reached out to over 2,000 members of the public, mainly the middle-aged and elderly in the community. The other initiative, the Neighbourhood Health Screening programme, reached out to 450 elderly and low-income residents in Taman Jurong on October 21.

Innovative discovery to fight chikungunya

Four academics from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine have discovered a way to stop the chikungunya virus from replicating and subsequently destroying it through developing a gene-based technology named “small-hairpin RNA”. Chikungunya has dengue-like symptoms including fever, chills, rashes and muscular and joint aches.

NUS Medicine came in second for this year's NUS Inter-Faculty Games (IFG), winning seven gold, two silver and seven bronze medals in a total of 16 games! Medical graduate receives all-rounder award

Dr Chiong Yee Keow, a recent graduate of the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, has won the Lee Hsien Loong Award for Outstanding All-Round Achievement in recognition of her contributions to the community and spirit of innovation and enterprise. The award is part of the 2012 Special Awards granted annually to post-secondary students who have illustrious achievements in both the academic and non-academic arenas.
